PISD WINTER ‘24  CHESS TOURNAMENT

Pasadena ISD hosted their thirteenth annual Winter Chess Tournament this past Saturday at the Beverly Hills Intermediate School. The tournament spotlighted 45 schools, 35 in the Pasadena ISD district, and ten from surrounding districts. With 314 student participants, this tournament was one for the books.

The tournament featured six competitive divisions, including eight high schools, 12 intermediate schools, nine middle schools, and 16 elementary schools, all competing for a chance to claim the 2024 Winter Chess tournament title. This year continued to bring excitement and shock to the competitors, as students were randomly paired against one another for 5 rounds of matches.

After the final round of the competition, the scores were added, and the eight top students received a medal or certificate for their success and bragging rights for their school. Pasadena ISD Chess Tournament has continued to grow and shed light on such an impactful sport. Tournament officials thank the campus administrators, scorekeepers, hall monitors, and the custodians for ensuring this event stays a memorable tradition for students to be celebrated.
